J.R. Martinez is an actor, best-selling author, motivational speaker and wounded U.S. Army veteran. His life path has been incredible, and even a bit improbable. Once a high school football player from a small town in Georgia, the only son of a single mother who emigrated from El Salvador, he proudly joined the Army in 2002 as a way to give back to the country that had already given so much to him and his family.

In 2003, while deployed in Iraq, Martinez's Humvee hit a roadside bomb. He suffered smoke inhalation and severe burns to 34% of his body, and spent almost three years in recovery. During his recovery, a nurse asked him to speak to another burn patient; when Martinez realized the positive impact he had on that man, he decided to use his own experiences to help others.

In this inspiring Keynote, Martinez, author of New York Times best-selling book Full of Heart: My Story of Survival, Strength and Spirit, will share his life story, and what he discovered he was capable of achieving when faced with tough and unexpected challenges. He'll inspire you to:

  • Accelerate your personal success into 3-D: desire, dedication and discipline
  • Face challenges, recover from setbacks and find new opportunities in your personal and professional life
  • Adjust your dream or vision, and even create entirely new goals, in the face of adversity
  • Set short- and long-term goals, stay motivated and develop the perseverance to achieve those goals
  • Stay open-minded to new opportunities, and remain fluid enough to respond to unexpected circumstances
  • Learn to “unvictimize” and become a true leader in your business and your life
  • Work with different types of people and build a team environment based on respect

By focusing on shorter-term goals and keeping optimism (and even humor) at the forefront, Martinez teaches that one's entire outlook and perspective can be transformed. His message – "We’re all stronger and more resilient than we think" – will help you to become more than what you can envision, in both your personal and professional life.
